8/25/93 Paramount Theater, Seattle, WA Opening is ok.. Trey sounds just a smidgeon shaky at times, though. The
pre-Nirvana segment is somewhat long and spacey, but there are no melodious themes or noodles (just the usual
enchanting&mysterious, ethereal, airy sounds). Nirvana at 3:56. Wow.. Typically gorgeous, perfect Nirvana segment (btw, this
DAUD (thanks Mark) is one of those that sounds better than most DSBDs, imo, especially any and all DSBDs with any hiss at
all on them). Mike's solo-section is very melodious and captivating, and not dark and angry as it sometimes is. I wonder
whether Mike bases this solo on what he ate before the gig. ;-) First shot at the Note at 5:59, and it is well-sustained by Trey
(no jammin around it). Mike practically teases "Ice" in here (but doesn't.. he almost teases the Benny Hill theme intro to it..
almost). Second Note at 6:44, and Trey jams on this one.. fairly well. Nothing that spectacular in this whole pre-charge. Charge
at 7 minutes, then "Boy" at 7:18, after a good scream. BMGS/WUDMTF segment standard. Tramps jam at 9:29 with some
WICKED LOOOOW signals from Mike for the tramps turns. Pretty good tramps jam.. around 11:30 the jam quiets down a
lot and Trey starts noodling (Page has pretty much dropped out in here.. he didn't really wail away in the tramps segment).
OUUUUCH!!! Trey's little theme-noodling around 12 minutes is sweeet.. very quiet and melodious. He is still on this
ultra-pretty little theme around 12:45, but it is very gently played (audience clapping, and very gentle accompaniment from Fish,
Mike and Page). Around 13 minutes, Trey starts getting progressively louder, all the while still deliciously noodling in a most
spectacularly beautiful manner, akin to a pleasant Hood, sortof. Mike's making some curious noises on his bass around 13:45 or
so, when Trey starts building this SATANIC, EVIL-SOUNDING, REPETITIVE yet-captivating groove!! Trey's still doing this
at 14:30!! What a raw groove (Fish is pounding out a rhythm more along AC/DC (the band) lines than YEM). Trey starts
jamming at bit more on this somewhat distorted, chord-laden but repetitive theme around 15 minutes. The crescendo is still
going on.. There we go. Just after 15:30, Trey starts letting loose some nice licks in the midst of the chords of the
aforementioned repetitive-theme! Page lets out some more Oye Como Va-like chords. At 16 minutes, this jam still appears to
be climbing, and is still a giant crescendo of Slave or Hood-like (only more raging) proportions!! Trey lets out some great licks
and doesn't start teasing Oye Como Va until 16:40 or so (Page throws out some Oye Como Va chords). By 17 minutes, Trey's
raging a la Santana in a HUGE Oye Como Va sort-of jam. Trey's just wailing away mightily in here, with fantastic
accompaniment from the others, and SEVERE trilling around 17:30!!! Yeah!! Let's conclude this spectacular YEM JAM!!!!
Some wonderful cymbal-action from Fish to close.. B&D segment at 18:02 basically, with Mike totally raging, and Fish offering
great accompaniment. Very, very awesome B&D! Mike isn't slowing down -- he's noodling melodiously, as Trey was earlier in
the jam. But he's also funkily groovin' around the Oye Como Va theme. I've certainly heard him more active in this segment
before, but this is still a reasonably active segment. Fish's accompaniment isn't that spectacular, though. Closing WUDMTF
segment at 19:43 or so. Vocal jam comes in very shortly, after only about 15 seconds. It is ***INCREDIBLY*** weird, even
for the vocal jams. Baby Gramps (think Popeye) is actually in this thing (and if you've not heard his voice, you need to). Segues
into the Mice & Bats or "Tea Tray Song" around 23:15 or so, which is very amusing, and is must-hear, imo. This is definitely a
well, well above-average all-around YEM. A- rating. Check it out... this YEM kicks so many YEMs butt, imo. =^] two cents
