If the set list appears to be shorter than usual...You're right!!!
Each set was a little over an hour each. I had a great time and loved
the songs that were played (esp Fluffhead, Curtain, and GOOD TIMES BAD
TIMES). It just seemed that the level of intensity was very low. All the
songs were very structured, and the band was not playing as many mind
games as I'm used to. Keep in mind...It was a very good show!! It was
just a very low key show.
The field house they played in sounded very good!! There was no
echo since the floor was made out of a strange rubber material, and the
ceiling was covered with insulation. When I got there around 8:30, there
were about 50 people sitting near the stage. When the show started around
9:20, the population increased to about 300-400 people.
The majority of the crowd was from Denison, and they were all
DRUNK. Before the show started, it seemed like a very intimate, mellow
scene. But when the band started, all these drunk students stumbled in and
barged there way up to the stage. They all seemed to be far more
interested in their beers than the band. In fact a lot of them were
making fun of the band!!! So the big question that popped in my mind
during the show was... Why did Denison get Phish to play at their
school??? During Fluffhead, I heard more conversations among people than
I heard music! It was very weird. It seems like Phish would get far more
attention at schools like Oberlin or Kenyon. O.K. I will stop
complaining now :-).
Highlights: Split Open & Melt was jammin'!! Maze..as always..
aMAZEing!! Sweet Adaline.. Was this the first time Phish perfomed an
a capella in a gym? Chalk Dust was groovin' and Bowie was HOT!!!!!!!!
And of course.....Good Times Bad Times!!!
After the show a bunch of us were talking with Trey. He was
talking a little bit about their new song Axilla. He said that Axilla is
a new song in Gamehenge Sage (during the war segment of the story) and
that it won't be on the new album. Axilla actually means armpit!!! Also,
Trey was lauging about the fact that during the beginning of Weekapaug, he
put on his rollerblades and skated aroung the gym. But no one seemed to
notice. I sure didn't!!
        Well gotta move!!!     --->hadley<---

Weekapaug Groove* Good Times, Bad Times

* Trey put on the roller blades and skated around the gym. His wire;ess
wasn't really working well though. After the show he said it was really
hard to skate on the rubber track in the fieldhouse.
** This was my request. A lot of people don't understand my liking the
new stuff (sure I'd like them to play Slave to the Traffic Light again);
but this stuff is amazing! I love this song! I was really psyched when
Trey read my note and played it.
***David Bowie features some of the music from Peter and the Wolf. Page
played parts of it on a little cheesemeister keyboard. They also did the
fall down signal and I think we were the only people there who knew it.
The people next to us freaked out (I guess thats the purpose of the
language though). Some guy kept trying to lift us back up.

This was a really good show. Everybody in the band was on. It
was great to see them in a fieldhouse without huge hassles (the last show
I saw was Stony Brook). this place was very laid back. There were a lot
of wasted people at the show though, and at times they got way too rowdy.
A fight broke out behind me during the vaccuum solo, and Amy said some
girl left during the first set crying because some guys had sorta beat up
on her. Some of the people in the front were a little pushy and annoying.
They wouldn't shut up during Sweet Adeline. They were right in front of
the band, blabbing away the whole time. Other than a few problems with
the crowd this was a great show. Fluffhead was hot, as was the way jammed
out Maze. Trey's solo during Chalkdust Torture was really hot. It just
kept going and going. The band's energy was definitly up. Fish made a
couple of good wise cracks about the audience before playing Honey Love.
"You guys been drinking? Yeah I thought so." After the show the band hung
around a nd talked to people. Trey told me that Axcilla falls into the
post Wilson years of the Gamehenge story (like Llama) Page was really
nice when we talked with him. Overall this was a really nice show. I'm
really looking forward to tonight's show in Columbus.

Subject: DENISON :-( REVIREW :-) !

Uh, sorry about the misspellling in the subject but this is the Denison
review I am posting up. I know many of you are like huh? What Denison
show?
There is nothing about Denison on the concert schedule...Yes, this is true
but they did perform last night to a crowd of maybe 100 (probably less
though). The show had its ups and downs however...

First off and most importantly, the show ROCKED! THE BAND WAS ON FIRE!
I have never seen Trey so intense and even Mike broke a smile a few times!
I don't have the set list

-Matt get that thing posted up!-

but some favorites were Rift, Maze, Peter the
Wolf, David Bowie was outright fucking insane! and not to mention Fish
doing a sweet Vacuum solo that had the house trembling! I was psyched
because during the second set I was upfront with my buddies front row
and when Fish came out to do his vacuum thing and the band was doing
Hold Your head up, I was screaming Honey Love! Honey Love! So Fish
looks over at Trey on the drums and looks down at me and says, "I'm
going to do a little Syd Barret for this guy here..." I went insane!
Who ever said they don't take requests????? :-) :-) :-) :-)
It was an awesome show in a tiny fieldhouse to a very very very very
tiny crowd (that generally sucked but more on that later)

After the show (a rocking Good Times Bad Times Encore) I was lucky enough
to meet the entire band and really rap with them. The guys are really
great
they listen to what their fans have to say cause they are just normal joes
like everyone else. I also met Amy (Hi!) who almost got me and my buddy
on the guest list for Columbus. Overall, I would say that this was one of
their hottest shows once everything got going and the guys thought so too.
(especially after the Stony Brook show which they highly disliked...)

Anyway, about the Denison crowd. Denison is a very greek school full of
macho jerks who live in frat houses. Hey, I'm greek too but I would never
behave the way these guys did! Fights broke out in the audience during
Fish's vacuum solo (it was funny, the band saw what was going on and they
started doing this weird arm thing like they cheering at a football game
or
something), some guys attcked this one girl for who knows what, stupid
drunk slam dancing during Fluffhead, the list goes on and on. The WORST
was when they went to do Sweet Adeline and they were off mike and no one
would shut up and evryone was making rude comments to them like "you
suck!"
and "Go home!" DENSION GET A FUCKING LIFE PLEASE!!!! Even the women were
bad, trying to climb between your legs to get to the front. God, the scene
was soooooo bad. Sercurity was awesome and friendly...this time it was the
crowd that bit the big one! I'm glad it didn't stop the band from having a
good
time though. It was pretty evident about 2% of the crowd actually knew
more than one Phish song and when Trey did the all fall down signal, I
think
only about twenty people did it (It was funny, everyone around us was like
huh?!?!)

Well that is my little review, I have Columbus tonight and I'll probably
be way up front again. I'll be wearing a They Might Be Giants t-shirt and
my brand spanking new Phish cap! Look for me and say hi! Be phriendly!
Insomnia and Bernie's it is! Hey Doug, Queens is alright and I lived on
the Island too for awhile! Gotta go eat lunch...

                                                      dre
Did I mention Trey was rolling blading for a part
of the show, while still playing guitar! Yes, rolling around
the indoor track!

You just can't make up stuff like this.........

-Uh, this is kinda late I know but I just had it returned to me.
I was wondering which post it was going to end up in! Oh well
just my .02 you know what
                                  dre

I guess you could also expect a Columbus review and some tape groveling
from my way pretty darn soon!
